A Nye County deputy sheriff was arrested last week for domestic battery.

Around 9:40 p.m. Sept 29, Nye County sheriff's deputies responded to an address on Senita Court in Round Mountain for a report of a domestic battery. It was reported that 51-year-old Robert Cathcart, of Hadley, had been drinking and had committed a battery against his girlfriend and during that altercation had choked her.

Upon arriving, deputies located Cathcart barricaded inside of the residence with weapons. Initially Cathcart refused to come out of the residence, however, he ultimately exited the residence and was arrested without further incident.

Cathcart was booked into the Nye County Sheriff's Office Detention Center on $15,500 bail, however has since bailed.

Cathcart has been employed as a deputy sheriff with the Nye County Sheriff's Office for 9 years. He is currently on administrative leave pending the outcome of the internal affairs investigation.

He faces charges of domestic battery/strangulation and obstructing a public officer.
