A North Las Vegas truck driver was arrested for recycling fraud in California.

On Nov. 2, a California Department of Justice Recycling Fraud Team  observed a white New Evolution Trucking big rig leave a North Las Vegas truck storage yard and enter California on a route that circumvented CDFA border checkpoints in Yermo and Needles, Calif. California law requires all drivers importing used beverage containers report the materials at a CDFA checkpoint.

Agents contacted California Highway Patrol, who initiated the stop along Interstate 15 in Barstow.

CalRecycle reported that Humberto Flores-Hernandez, 29, failed to produce the required paperwork for the 9,840 pounds of used aluminum and glass beverage containers found in the back of his trailer. Flores-Hernandez was arrested on suspicion of recycling fraud and attempted grand theft, and his tractor-trailer was impounded. The potential CRV value of the illegal haul was priced at $13,874.
