North Las Vegas police arrest 20-year-old in deadly January shooting

NORTH LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The North Las Vegas Police Department made an arrest in connection with a deadly shooting in January.

Authorities say 20-year-old Gemonte Kirkland has been taken into custody with charges related to an incident that happened on Jan. 15 near Washburn Road and Goldfield Street.

Officers originally responded to that area after receiving a call about a vehicle that drove into a house. Arriving officers found a vehicle with two people inside suffering from gunshot wounds.

The man and woman inside the car, believed to be 18 years old, were taken to the University Medical Center but authorities said the man later passed away.

The Clark County Coroner identified him as Samaj Holmes and ruled his death a homicide due to a gunshot wound to the head.

Kirkland is facing charges that include open murder with a deadly weapon, attempted murder with a deadly weapon and battery with a deadly weapon.
