UPDATE: Coroner identifies man stabbed by security officer in Henderson

FEB. 3 UPDATE: The Clark County Coroner has identified the decedent as 34-year-old Ian Cullison. Cullison's death was due to a stab wound to the chest and it was ruled a homicide. The coroner's rulings are not legal charges, only determinations as to the manner of the person's death.

HENDERSON (KTNV) -- The fatal stabbing on Jan. 31 in Henderson happened during a shoplifting incident, according to Henderson police.

Henderson police say a man was observed stealing store merchandise on his body before leaving the store in the 1300 block of West Sunset Road near Stephanie Street and the Galleria at Sunset mall.

A 56-year-old security officer who was alerted the theft followed the man outside and attempted to stop him.

The alleged thief pulled out a knife. The security officer then pulled out his own knife and stabbed the man.

Police responded to the incident at approximately 5:40 p.m.

The 34-year-old man was transported to an area hospital where he died.

The Clark County coroner will identify the deceased after relatives have been notified.

The case is still under investigation to determine if the security guard will face charges.

This is the 2nd homicide of the year for the Henderson Police Department.
