A man was killed after being shot by Mohave County Sheriff's detectives Tuesday afternoon in Golden Valley, Arizona.

Narcotics detectives with the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office attempted to contact a man in the 5000 block of Highway 68 in Golden Valley around 1:10 p.m.

The man was wanted for questioning in connection with a drug search warrant conducted earlier that day.  The man fled in a vehicle while the detectives pursued. The subject stopped the vehicle in a field and then fled on foot.

The detectives observed the subject walking west on Earl Road at Mobile Road with a handgun. As detectives approached, the man ran a short distance before stopping and allegedly fired at the detectives.

A gun battle ensued and the man was fatally shot. Neither detective was injured.

The Bullhead City Police Department is conducting the formal investigation.
