A man is in critical condition following a stabbing Tuesday morning east of downtown Las Vegas.

Police said around 6 a.m., a man in his 40s came to his ex-girlfriend's room at the Safari Hotel, located near Fremont and Bruce streets, and stabbed her male friend multiple times.

The victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Officers on scene say he has undergone surgery and will most likely survive.

"When it comes to these situations, they're unpredictable. But you did have a disturbance that occurred inside a motel room down here," said Larry Hadfield, a public information officer with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

The suspect remains at large and the investigation is ongoing.
