Police arrest man in connection to shooting near Carey, Martin Luther King

NORTH LAS VEGAS (KTNV) - UPDATE FEB. 16: One man is dead and one is arrested following an afternoon shooting two days ago in North Las Vegas.

On Feb. 14 just before 4:30 p.m., officers arrived at the 2200 block of Superior Position Street regarding a shooting. Arriving officers located a 36-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound outside of a home.

The investigation showed there was a verbal argument between the 36-year-old man and 55-year-old Michael Cooley Sr. just before the shooting occurred. Cooley was gone before the police arriving in the area.

Investigators believe the two men knew each other.

At about 9:45 a.m. on Feb. 15, officers located Cooley on Idlewood Avenue and Longfellow Street in Las Vegas and took him into custody. Cooley was booked at the Las Vegas City Jail for murder with a deadly weapon.

The shooting occurred in the 2200 block of Superior Position Street, near Carey Avenue and Martin Luther King Boulevard.

Police said neighbors were heard arguing outside before shots were fired.

The man was taken to University Medical Center where he later died.
