Officers say around 12:30 a.m. they reported to the scene of a crash in the 5000 block of Rogers Street, near Tropicana Avenue and Arville Street.
They say that the vehicle had struck a light pole and the man sitting in the driver’s seat of the SUV was suffering from gunshot wounds.
The driver was transported to UMC Trauma where he later died.
Detectives at the scene later learned that the shooting had taken place in a nearby parking lot. They believe the victim was attempting to flee when he crashed his SUV into a pole.
They have yet to identify a suspect or motive in the shooting.
