The man charged in the crash that killed a pastor's son in September was sentenced to prison Tuesday.

Marc Fernandez faces 1 1/2 to 5 years in prison on one charge of felony reckless driving and a misdemeanor driving under the influence charge. 19-year-old Alvin Davis Jr. died in the Sept. 5 crash.

Witnesses told police that the Ford, driven by Fernandez, was traveling north on South Buffalo Drive and was attempting to make a turn on West Badura Avenue in front of the oncoming BMW, being driven by Davis.

Just hours before the crash, Davis had purchased the BMW.  Family members said Davis had saved up for months to buy the car.

Davis and his brother Terrell Williams were en route to their father's home when the collision occurred.

His father, Pastor Alvin Davis Sr., spoke at the sentencing Tuesday and expressed forgiveness toward Hernandez.

"Some say 'do you hate Marc Fernandez?' I say I don't hate him your honor because I don't know him," said Davis Sr.

The judge also said the family would have the ability to pursue restitution at some point in the future.

Davis, with the help of his son Alvin, created House of Liberty Outreach Ministries on Mistral Avenue four years ago.
