LVMPD responds to shooting, barricade near Las Vegas Strip

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — UPDATE | Apr. 18, 4:54 p.m.

LVMPD has shared with us that the suspect involved was taken into custody "without incident."

During a media briefing attended by Channel 13 on Saturday evening, we heard from LVMPD's Captain Seely about this incident.

Around 8:15 a.m., LVMPD received reports of a shooting near the 1800 block of Main Street. Upon their arrival, they made contact with a woman that had been shot in the area. She was hospitalized after sustaining non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers then found the suspect, who refused to surrender. During the barricade, SWAT and Crisis Negotiators responded, and were able to take the suspect into custody after approximately six hours of negotiations.

Captain Seely shared that the incident was isolated, and reiterated that it was not an active shooter situation. The suspect's relationship with the victim is unknown at this time.

LVMPD's investigation is still ongoing.

We're learning more details from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) about a shooting resulting in a barricade near the Strip this morning.

According to LVMPD, a shooting broke out in the 1800 block of South Main Street. One person was shot and hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Metro initially shared that the suspect involved barricaded themselves in a nearby hotel, but we have since learned that they instead barricaded inside the business where the shooting took place. At this time, SWAT and Crisis Negotiators are on scene responding.

LVMPD said that while there is "no known ongoing threat to the community," the public is advised to avoid the area due to heavy police presence.
