UPDATE OCT. 7: The Clark County Coroner has identified the man shot and killed outside the South Point hotel-casino as 41-year-old Ryan Clearwater.

Clearwater's death was due to multiple gunshot wounds and ruled a homicide. Coroner rulings are not criminal charges, only a determination of the manner of the person's death.

ORIGINAL STORY
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation in the valet area of the South Point hotel-casino after security shot a man.

It all went down around 4:30 p.m. when South Point security received reports that a man was walking out of the casino holding a handgun.

The man then fired one round outside the valet area.

Police say surveillance footage shows the man waving the gun around and then walking back towards the valet entrance.

Security confronted the man and that's when the man pointed his gun at officers.

Security fired multiple rounds which killed him.

Police have not yet identified the man.

“About an hour prior that same person was observed on surveillance now that we’ve backtracked the video, walking into the property, so we don’t believe he was a guest,” says Lt. Ray Spencer, Las Vegas Police.

Lt. Spencer says despite recent violent incidents in and around Las Vegas hotels and casinos recently, guests are in good hands.

“They have an exceptional security force, especially here from watching the video of how quickly they engaged an armed suspect,” says Spencer.

South Point provided 13 Action News the following statement via Twitter, "We can confirm LVMPD is currently investigating an incident here. We are cooperating fully with law enforcement officials and have no further details pending investigation."
