Las Vegas police say male wanted for sexual assault killed himself

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Las Vegas police are releasing more information about the deadly incident on Sept. 29 on Sleepy Fawn Drive near Sahara Avenue and Sloan Lane.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department says their Major Violator detectives were assisting Sexual Assault detectives in apprehending a male wanted for sexually assaulting a child under 14.

Detectives were able to determine that the suspect was armed and began treating the incident as a barricade. LVMPD Special Weapons and Tactics and Crisis Negotiators were called in.

They attempted to contact the male for several hours without a response. SWAT officers eventually entered the residence and found the suspect with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. There was no interaction between officers and the suspect.

He was pronounced deceased at Sunrise Hospital on Sept. 30.

No other information about the male, including age, has been released. The Clark County coroner will release his name and manner of death.
