LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Stephen Gibson, 36, has been arrested for reportedly shooting his honorary aunt’s boyfriend after she was supposedly burned by the person who was shot.

The shooting happened shortly before 2 a.m. Aug. 25 at a home one Meadow Haven Lane near Jones Boulevard and Twain Avenue.

Police say they were able to determine that the woman who was burned about a week earlier called Gibson on the night of the shooting.

Gibson told police that he went to the home to find out what was going on and shot the victim when he came towards Gibson. He told police that he did not go there with the intention of shooting the victim.

The victim told police that the woman told him that earlier that night before leaving that if he (the victim) looked for her, she would send her boss to kill him.

He identified the man who shot him as the woman’s nephew. Gibson later told police that he is not actually related to the woman, but she is a close family friend who is referred to as an aunt.

Gibson has an extensive criminal history, according to the arrest report.

In May 2013 he was convicted of battery with substantial bodily harm. He also had prior arrests for murder with a deadly weapon, battery with a deadly weapon, and mayhem with a deadly weapon.
