A daughter is desperate for answers after her 84-year-old mother was found dead in her own home.

Donna McElfresh was found with apparent trauma to her head and face inside a burning apartment around 10:30 a.m. July 6. The apartment is in a complex at 501 East Lake Mead Parkway near East Warm Springs Road.

McElfresh was transported to St. Rose Dominical Hospital – Lima Campus where she succumbed to her injuries.

Her daughter, Daleyn, says her mom was her best friend.

Born in Minnesota, Donna moved to Nevada when she joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base and had lived here ever since. Daleyn said although she worried about her elderly mom living alone, Donna valued her independence.

Daleyn says she knew something was wrong when she called her mom Friday morning because she wasn't feeling well, but then her mom didn't answer.

She believes her mom was killed by someone she knew because she would have opened the door for them, and was usually very meticulous about locking her door.

Daleyn says the worst part was not even being able to say good-bye to her mother. "They took that from me," she says.
