Former NFL star Darren Sharper has been sentenced to prison for drugging and raping a woman.

Sharper was ordered by a judge on Thursday morning to spend the next 18 years in federal prison.

Sharper held back tears as he apologized for his actions. The former football player said he is still trying to figure out why he committed the crimes.

Sharper played for the Packers, Vikings and Saints.

He is accused of drugging and raping as many as 16 women in several cities, including Las Vegas.
