UPDATE ON FEB. 16: An arrest report from CCSD Police revealed new details about what led to the arrest of Suzanna Raygoza-Rosen.
According to the report, two child witnesses claimed that Raygoza-Rosen choked a 6-year-old student who was reportedly misbehaving. Police also found redness and slight bruising near the child's neck.
Raygoza-Rosen told police that the child threw his crayons onto the floor, then sat down on the floor and refused to pick up the crayons or stand up. She also admitted that she grabbed the child by the chin to force him to look at her. However, she denied choking the child and claimed that she lifted him off the floor by his armpits.
A Las Vegas elementary school teacher has been arrested on a child abuse charge.
The Clark County School District Police Department arrested 34-year-old Suzanna Raygoza-Rosen after an investigation that was initiated at Cynthia Cunningham Elementary School in November 2017. The school is located near Flamingo Road and Jimmy Durante Boulevard.
CCSD police said the investigation substantiated allegations of grabbing a student that resulted in her arrest.
Raygoza-Rosen has been serving as a first-grade teacher at the elementary school and was hired by CCSD in January 2007. Her employment status with CCSD is currently listed as "assigned to home” since November.
Following her arrest, Raygoza-Rosen was booked into the Clark County Detention Center.
