Deputies find bruising, bite marks on 2-year-old child

A couple in Pahrump is facing child abuse charges after Nye County Sheriff's deputies found "significant bruising, bite marks and other serious injuries" on a 2-year-old child.

The investigation began on July 27 when staff from the Division of Child and Family Services informed deputies about concerns regarding the child's safety.

Deputies contacted the child's parents, 30-year-old Matrix Walker and 25-year-old Whitney Lewis, and both admitted to causing the child's injuries over the past two weeks.

The child was taken into protective custody and will be treated for the injuries. Walker and Lewis are being held on bail at the Nye County Detention Center for $5,000.
