UPDATE: Stabbing suspect says she was tired of 'making everyone sad around her'

UPDATE NOV. 27: Police have released the arrest report for Melissa Barnes, who is accused of stabbing her boyfriend Emmanuel Amar.

Barnes says that she and Emmanuel began fighting when she was attempting to cut herself with a kitchen knife.

She was initially observed hitting Amar in the chest around 3 a.m. Nov. 21 with her closed fists by the owner of the house where she and Amar lived.

The homeowner later hear Amar saying he had been stabbed and found Amar holding his chest and bleeding.

Barnes reportedly told police that she was attempting to hurt herself because she was tired of "making everyone sad around her." She also said she didn't remember stabbing Amar but admitted it was her fault. In addition, she says that she took up to 35 pills and had been drinking before the incident.

The homeowner's wife told police that Barnes would become violent when drinking and had swung at her boyfriend a couple of weeks earlier.

She was arrested on the charge of open murder with a deadly weapon.

The coroner has identified the deceased as 43-year-old Emmanuel Amar of Las Vegas. His official cause of death was a stab wound to the chest and his death was ruled a homicide.

ORIGINAL STORY

Homicide detectives responded to a stabbing related homicide that occurred inside a home in the 3600 block of Diamond Head Drive.  

Police found a female suspect inside the home with her adult boyfriend. Apparently, the suspect had taken some prescription pills and was attempting to injure or kill herself with a knife when her boyfriend tried to intervene and was stabbed in the chest and back area.  

The victim was transported to the hospital where he later died. The suspect was taken into custody at the scene.
