Coroner identifies bicyclist hit by motorcycle near downtown Las Vegas

UPDATE JAN. 14: The coroner has identified the man hit by a motorcycle near downtown Las Vegas as 52-year-old Edward Ness II, no city of residence listed. Cause of death was blunt force injuries.

ORIGINAL STORY
A male bicyclist in his 50s is dead after being hit by a motorcycle at Fremont Street and East Sahara Avenue shortly after midnight Jan. 12.

Police say the motorcycle with two riders was traveling south on Fremont Street when it hit the bicycle in the crosswalk at Sahara.

The bicyclist was thrown off the bike and was hit by a Nissan Sentra driven by a 26-year-old female. The bicyclist was transported to Sunrise Hospital where he died.

Impairment is believed to have been a factor and 35-year-old Daniel Althoff was arrested. This is the 5th traffic-related fatality for 2019.
