PHOENIX (KTNV) — Arizona authorities report a teenager failed to stop and shot at troopers overnight Wednesday.
An Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper attempted to stop a vehicle near Bethany Home Road and 31st Avenue for driving without headlights on, according to a news release, at about 12:15 a.m.
The 14-year-old behind the wheel then failed to yield to the trooper’s emergency lights and siren while continuing drive to the area of 41st and Maryland Avenues.
Once stopped, the boy took out a gun and began shooting at troopers with one of them returning fire before the teen took off again in his car.
A Phoenix Police Department helicopter was then able to track him in an alley southeast of Maryland and 43rd Avenues, where the boy was taken into custody.
No injuries were reported in the incident, and the 14-year-old was booked into the Maricopa County Durango Juvenile Facility on charges of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, and misconduct with a weapon.
AZDPS detectives were continuing their investigation.
