Two Beatty residents have been arrested in connection with a fire last summer.
On July 5, the Nevada State Fire Marshal, in conjunction with the Nye County Sheriff’s Office, arrested Beatty residents 49-year-old John Wirth and 27-year-old John Wootton in a string of incendiary fires that occurred in Beatty on Aug. 22, 2017. The sheriff's office reported that the men confessed to the fires.
Two trailers and a shed were burned at 100 Cottonwood Drive and another at 127 Second Street. The second one involved the use of a Molotov cocktail. Two people were inside the Second Street house.
Wirth and Wootton are each charged with the following felonies -- two counts of attempted murder, three counts of arson 1st degree, one count of arson 2nd degree, and three counts of possession of an incendiary device.
Both are being held on $150,000 bail each at the Nye County Detention Center in Pahrump.
