LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Emergency crews responded to a 2-alarm fire at an apartment complex in the south valley on Tuesday morning.

Fire crews responded to a call around 11:45 a.m. about a building fire at Sonterra apartments.

The Clark County Fire Department said the blaze was located at 5050 Tamarus Street, near Harry Reid International Airport.

The fire displaced 40 individuals and 32 apartment units.

Five people were taken to Sunrise Hospital for their injuries, with three evaluated at the scene of the fire.

One Clark County firefighter was taken to the hospital due to heat exhaustion.

Complex management is working to relocate residents to other units within the property.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown and is under investigation.

The American Red Cross of Southern Nevada was at the scene of the apartment fire, providing aid to affected families.
