LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A major milestone for Elon Musk's Boring Company.

Crews were able to break through the second of two tunnels for the People Mover project at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The company says the milestone marks the completion of excavation on the system known as the Convention Center Loop. The Convention Center Loop is part of the West Hall expansion, which will add 1.4 million square feet of space to the existing campus.

The People Mover is designed to whisk people across the large campus in just over a minute.

Construction has been allowed to continue at the convention center, and across the state, since Gov. Sisolak deemed it essential. Construction site jobs have adopted increased protocols, including keeping workers 6 feet apart.

"That kind of dilligence, as well as commitment to making sure these steps are followed, is what has allowed these projects to move forward," says Steve Hill, the CEO of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The expansion and Convention Center Loop is on time, Boring Company says, and is scheduled to debut in January 2021.
