LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — McCarran International Airport is launching a public awareness campaign to educate passengers about preventative measures they can take to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19, and highlight the efforts being made by LAS to keep everyone safe and healthy as they travel to and from Las Vegas.

As stay-at-home orders around the country are gradually lifted, an increase in air travel is anticipated.

Before air travelers return, airport officials say, it is crucial for them to know the steps they can take to keep themselves and others around them safe as they travel.

Airport management said it is focusing on four main areas of COVID-19 mitigation:

  • Cleaning and sanitizing:

-Using hospital-grade products on all high-touch surfaces, with great frequency-Increasing the availability of hand sanitizer to passengers

  • Encouraging and coordinating social distancing

-Signage, overhead announcements, distance markers, staff to monitor capacity

  • Minimizing the number of people in airport facilities:

-Only ticketed passengers should enter the terminals

  • Reducing the number of person-to-person interactions/contacts

-Highlight minimal contact options like online check-in, mobile or print-at-home boarding passes, self-serve kiosks and traveling with minimal baggage
Airport officials say that everyone has a part to play in protecting all airport users and protective gear can also be purchased at available vending machines.
