LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Las Vegas Athletic Clubs has notified its members that they are closing their locker rooms and showers. They are encouraging their members to come dressed in their gym attire and leave valuables at home.

Dr. Deborah Birx encouraged local and state officials in 11 major cities on Wednesday to take "aggressive" steps to curb the outbreaks in their cities. One of those steps is to close gyms and public pools.

Gov. Sisolak also said on July 9 when he announced that bars were returning to Phase 1 that he is keeping an eye on gyms, pools, water parks etc.

LETTER SENT TO MEMBERS

We want to first express our gratitude toward you for complying with the safety guidelines and protocols that are in place to keep you healthy. Your partnership is essential to keeping our facilities open. As it's been recently reported by Nevada OSHA, gyms and health clubs are 86% compliant with the Governor's directives. This is because of YOU, your commitment to a healthy lifestyle, and because you are practicing social distancing and wearing your mask. But let's all do better by setting a goal of 100% compliance at LVAC.

On another note, State authorities (OSHA - Occupational Safety and Health Administration) are requiring all clubs to close the locker rooms and showers until further notice. This will go into effect on Sunday, July 26 at 5:00 PM.

Restrooms and sinks are available, as are pools and the showers in the pool area. We encourage you to come dressed in your gym attire and leave valuables at home. To better accommodate our members, we will continue to allow one small bag on the fitness floor. LVAC drawstring bags are available for $5 at the Juice Bar, while supplies last.

Lastly, we believe that health clubs and gyms can operate more safely than any other business, because you, as our members, understand your role in upholding safety measures.

Thank you for your partnership. Let’s continue to work hard to keep your club open!
