Henderson police: Uptick in card skimming at gas pumps

Posted at
and last updated

Henderson police are warning people about an uptick in card skimming at gas pumps.

The skimming occurs when someone attaches an electronic device to a gas pump or other card reader. Once a card is swiped through it, the device gathers the user's information that can then be used to commit fraud.

Some warning signs of card skimming include:

  • The card slot on the reader is loose
  • Double-sided tape or glue is present around the reader
  • Signs the lock has been tampered with
  • The transaction doesn't go through after the first swipe
