LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Dia de los Muertos starts today. The Day of the Dead (el Día de los Muertos) is a Mexican holiday where families welcome back the souls of their deceased relatives for a brief reunion that includes food, drink and celebration.
The Mexican holiday is gaining popularity in North America. There are many Dia de los Muertos celebration in the Las Vegas valley each year.
At Springs Preserve, the family-friendly celebration features live theater and dance performances, altars, mariachis, face paining, sugar skull decorating and an art exhibition.
The altars created by residents, community groups and artists honor deceased relatives are always a highlight of the celebration. Photographs, candles, incense, displays of favorite foods, and poems decorate the altars and lighten the mood. Music and dance are also often prominent features of many altars.
This 3-day event will offer traditional food, fun arts and crafts, face painting, carnival games, art vendors – and most importantly, a beautiful presentation of over 35 altars built by local residents. Live entertainment will include plays, dances, Mariachis and much more.

WHEN: Friday, Saturday & Sunday, November 1 - 3, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. each evening
