LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Bus riders will have another option when it comes to purchasing passes in Southern Nevada.

This week's announcement involved Uber, the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada, and Masabi in launching the Uber Transit ticketing.

The ticketing system will allow riders to buy and ride local transit from within the Uber app.

Following a staggered roll out over the next few weeks, all Uber riders in the Las Vegas area will then be able to buy RTC passes through the app and then use their phone to ride.

Purchasing transit passes via Uber will cost the same amount as through existing options, according to an Uber spokesperson.

"For the first time in Las Vegas, taking an Uber can mean taking public transit," said David Reich, Uber's Head of Transit. "We are excited to expand our collaboration with RTC and Masabi to make Las Vegas the second city in the world where riders can purchase transit passes and ride public transit seamlessly through the Uber app.

This Vegas announcement follows the launch of Uber Transit ticketing in Denver with the system currently available in 15 cities globally.
