A man is in custody after a barricade situation at an apartment complex Saturday morning.

According to police officials, the incident began Saturday at around 7:43 a.m. when officers responded to a domestic disturbance call in the 5100 block of River Glen Drive, near West Rochelle Avenue and South Decatur Boulevard.

A female victim was transported to the UMC Trauma. A relative said she had jumped for the balcony with her 2-year-old son. The suspect had discharged a firearm into the air.

The 2-year-old was unharmed as was the woman's 9-year-old daughter, who ran out the front door, the relative said.

According to a relative, the woman is now in stable condition after she jumped for the balcony. The relative said the woman's spleen had ruptured and she had to have emergency surgery.

Police said the standoff ended around 12:27 p.m. with the suspect exiting the second story apartment. He gave himself up without further incident or injury. Charges are pending against him.

"We attempted to contact him several different times. He refused all contact," Lt. Jeff Goodwin said. "We called out SWAT team and crisis negotiators. After about 5 hours, we were able to successfully negotiate him coming out of his apartment."
