LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — One pedestrian is dead and another has been hospitalized with serious injuries following a crash in the northern Las Vegas valley, police say.

Officers gathered evidence at the scene on West Owens Avenue east of B. Street around 3:37 p.m. Evidence shows that a 31-year-old man was driving a Lexus in the right-most travel lane of Owens Avenue at B Street. This is where the two pedestrians were also walking on the south curb of the street.

Police said the Lexus failed to maintain its travel lane and began to rotate clockwise.

"The Lexus left the roadway to the right, struck the curb, and entered the east sidewalk of Owens Avenue," police said. The front of the Lexus reportedly hit the two pedestrians.

The two pedestrians were transported to UMC trauma. One pedestrian has been identified as a 45-year-old man. He is currently at UMC Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The second pedestrian, despite all life-saving efforts, was pronounced deceased by medical personnel.

"The pedestrian's death marks the 2nd traffic-related fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's jurisdiction for the year 2023," police said. "This collision remains under investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Collision Investigation Section."
