ORIGINAL STORY

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) -- Police say a caretaker may be responsible for a child's death.

On Thursday around 3:12 p.m., officers responded to an apartment complex in the 800 block of Sierra Vista Drive near Swenson Street to investigate a call of an unresponsive 16-month-old girl.

The baby was transported to Sunrise Children’s Hospital where she was later pronounced deceased.

Medical staff determined the injuries to be consistent with abuse.

Police say the child had received severe burns and bruising to various parts of her body.

Detectives determined that the suspect, identified as 21-year-old Demond Billingsley, was not related to the child, but was babysitting the child.

The investigation revealed that Billingsley was responsible for the child’s injuries.

Billingsley was arrested without incident and booked into the Clark County Detention Center where he faces one count of murder by child abuse.

Anyone with any information about this incident is urged to call Crime Stoppers by phone at 702-385-5555.
