Bus rider Wayne Heavey knows riding the bus downtown can be busy. But earlier this week when we saw him outside the outlet mall, he said, "Surprisingly I got here awful quick. I know around the day, especially at night, it can take hours to get to this side of town."

He's right. Especially this Thanksgiving weekend, traffic can be a nightmare.

If you are heading to the airport or hitting the malls, RTC says consider parking at any of their park and ride locations for free.

Jacob Simmons, RTC Senior Transit Operations Planner, says, "Just hop on a bus at one of our parking facilities and take a trip to your favorite mall or shopping centers."

RTC has three park and ride locations:

  • SOUTHEAST:  South Strip Transfer Terminal – 6675 S. Gilespie St.  The SDX Route will take riders to Fashion Show Mall, Town Square Las Vegas and the Las Vegas Premium Outlets North and South.  The Maryland Parkway Route will take riders to the Boulevard Mall.
  • NORTHWEST:  Centennial Hills Transit Center and Park & Ride – 7313 Grand Montecito Parkway.  The Centennial Express (CX) provides access to the Las Vegas Premium Outlets North and Fashion Show Mall.
  • WEST:  Westcliff Transit Center and Park & Ride – 25 S. Durango Drive, next to Summerlin Parkway.  The Westcliff Airport Express (WAX) provides access to Las Vegas Premium Outlets North, Boca Park and Tivoli Village shopping centers.

If you are one of  many taking the bus this holiday, don't forget to check the RTC website or app for an updated schedule.

"We'll be operating on a Sunday schedule on Thanksgiving day and then the day after thanksgiving on family day we will be operating on a Saturday schedule," says Simmons.
