NEVADA (KTNV) — A man who was shot and killed by authorities earlier this week after breaching a security gate at the Nevada National Security Site has been identified.

The Nye County Sheriff’s Office said 27- year-old Nekiylo Dawayne Graves was the man killed in Monday night's incident.

A spokesman for the National Nuclear Security Administration initially reported that Graves failed to stop at the gate and drove for about 8 miles before he parked, got out of his car and approached security officials.

Nye County Sheriff's deputies and nuclear site officers told the Iowa resident to drop the object in his hand and stop approaching. However, he refused commands and was shot.

Deputy John Kakavulias, of Nye County, was identified as the deputy involved in the fatal shooting.

The FBI was notified about this incident and authorities will be continuing their investigation into the shooting.
