LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — National Dog Day is coming up next week and the Animal Foundation is offering a new adoption special in honor of the day.

The organization will be offering free adoptions for adult dogs six months and older who have been at the shelter for thirty days or more in hopes of finding them a new home.

The event will take place on Aug. 26 and include spay/neuter surgery, microchip, and up-to-date vaccines. A city/government fee up to $10 may also apply.

Prospective dog parents can visit The Animal Foundation’s new Engelstad Family Adoption Center from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. to meet the shelter pets.

National Dog Day is celebrated annually and is a day for people to recognize the importance of dogs and how they impact their lives, according to the foundation. It is also a day to recognize how hard service dogs work and draw attention to the large number of dogs that need to be rescued each year.

The Animal Foundation is located at 655 N. Mojave Road and more information is available here.
