A 79-year-old man appears to have suffered a medical episode and crashed his vehicle on Friday around 11:45 a.m. on Major Avenue at Westminster Way.

The man was driving a 1997 Ford Crown Victoria northbound on Major Avenue approaching Westminster Way when his vehicle struck the center median.

The vehicle then hit a roadway sign and came to rest against the curb on the southbound side of Major Avenue facing west.

Bystanders approached the man who was unresponsive in the vehicle. They pulled him from the car and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation before Henderson Fire paramedics responded to the scene.

The man was transported to St. Rose Dominican-Rose de Lima Campus where he was pronounced dead.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office will release the man’s name and cause of death after he has been positively identified and his family has been notified.

There were no other vehicles involved in the collision. The roadway was closed for about two hours.
