An apartment fire caused $18,000 in damage Tuesday afternoon.

The Henderson Fire Department responded to the fire at Morrell Park Apartments on Harris Street, near Boulder Highway and Major Avenue, around 4:20 p.m.

The first arriving engine crew observed fire and smoke coming from a second floor unit of a two-story apartment building. Firefighters quickly attacked the fire and prevented it from spreading to neighboring apartment units.

A resident was home when the fire started and called 911.

Five engines, two trucks and two rescue units responded to the fire. There were no injuries to residents or firefighters.

The apartment’s two adult residents and three children, as well as two adult residents from a neighboring unit, are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

The cause of the fire was determined to be unattended cooking.
