A Nevada prison inmate died Saturday in Reno.

The Nevada Department of Corrections said 64-year-old Gregory Kovner died at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center. Kovner had been in prison since April 7, 2010 and was serving 48 to 168 months for robbery with a victim older than 65 in Douglas County.

He was convicted for robbing his 82-year-old mother in Douglas County in 2009.  His mother told police that Kovner punched her in the face and threatened to kill her after he tied her to a chair with rope and telephone cord at her home in Topaz Ranch Estates.

He died a week before he was scheduled to be considered for parole.

The Washoe County Coroner’s Office responded and an autopsy is being scheduled. Kovner’s next of kin have been notified.
