Las Vegas police say two people are dead after the car they were in jumped a sidewalk and then crashed into street lights.
27-year-old Jose Angel Santiago and 31-year-old Deshawn Lee Walker, both of Las Vegas, died in the crash. They died of multiple blunt force injuries.
Police say the incident took place Saturday around 11:20 p.m. on Charleston Boulevard at Mohawk Street, near Decatur Boulevard.
According to investigators, a Hyundai was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver somehow lost control. The vehicle hit a curb, drove up onto the sidewalk and then hit two street light poles. The car came to a rest in the roadway, straddling the median.
Emergency responders went to the scene but pronounced the driver and passenger dead.
The incident brings the number of traffic-related fatalities in Las Vegas this year to 123.
