LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Two schools were forced to transfer their students or release them to their parents after the power went out early Thursday morning.

The trouble began around 7:30 a.m. Initially, NV Energy estimated the power would be restored quickly. However, they are now saying it may not be restored until mid-afternoon.

The impacted schools are Harris Elementary School, 3620 S. Sandhill Road, and Chaparral High School, 3850 Annie Oakley Drive.

NV Energy says a little more than 1,100 customers in the 89121 zip code lost power.

As of noon, there are only a few customers still without power.
