A fugitive who shot at Washoe County sheriff's deputies during a high-speed chase in Reno last year has been sentenced to more than 16 years in federal prison on drug- and parole-related charges.

Prosecutors say 35-year-old Eugene Corona was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Reno Tuesday after pleading guilty in November to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

Court records say deputies tried to stop Corona in northeast Reno in January 2017 but he sped away, ran a stop sign and a red light, nearly causing two crashes.

Authorities say he fired a shot at the officers then threw a gun out the window before crashing his truck. He attempted to flee on foot but deputies apprehended him and found about 60 grams of meth and a digital scale in his truck.
