81-year-old critical in crash east of Red Rock

An 81-year-old man was critically injured in a crash Sunday afternoon just east of Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.

The crash happened around 2:15 p.m. at Charleston Boulevard and Sky Vista Drive. The crash happened when a Toyota Tundra attempted to merge from a private drive onto Charleston Boulevard and collided with Chevy Suburban.

The driver of the Toyota, Stanley Betts, was ejected from the vehicle and landed on Charleston Boulevard. He was transported to UMC Trauma with life-threatening injuries.

All five occupants of the Chevy were also transported to UMC Trauma with minor injuries.

There is no indication of impairment at this time.

The crash blocked eastbound Charleston Boulevard for nearly 4 hours.
