The 1-October shooting memorial at the iconic 'Welcome to Las Vegas' sign will be moved this weekend.

58 white crosses, along with all the other artifacts, are going to the Clark County Museum in Henderson.

The items will be packed up in boxes Sunday morning.

Eventually, the memorial will be moved to the museum's permanent collection.

Mark Hall-Patton, the museum administrator, says preserving the memorial becomes more important with each passing day.

He says it's going to become a part of our cultural memory.

"In the future we will look back and want to know about ourselves," Hall-Patton said. "We will want to know how the community dealt with this particular tragedy and what kinds of things meant something at that point in time."

Hall-Patton says it could take months, even years, to catalog everything.
