One person is dead and several others are in the hospital after a crash on North 5th Street and Tropical Parkway in North Las Vegas.

According to North Las Vegas Police, the crash happened around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Police say a black Jeep, carrying 3 adults, was driving westbound on Tropical when a silver sedan, carrying 4 teenagers, was driving southbound on North 5th Street.

At some point the silver sedan crashed into the Jeep sending an 89-year-old man flying out of the SUV. That man later died at the scene. He was identified as Richard Camara of North Las Vegas.

Police said preliminary reports show that the 20-year-old driver of the silver sedan may have possibly been speeding and under the influence of drugs.

North Las Vegas Police wants to remind people to drive carefully.

"Two fatals in one week, this is just something we absolutely don't want to see," said Officer Aaron Petty, "Folks just need to remember to pay attention to signs and slow down, be aware of your surroundings so situations like this don't happen."

The intersection of 5th and Tropical was shut down for several hours.
