CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A Nevada legislative panel has voted to cut $250,000 of funding intended to pay for work at the former state penitentiary in Carson City to make it suitable for use as a museum.
The Nevada Appeal reports the Finance Committee on Friday deleted the money from a special projects list for the Nevada State Prison Preservation Society to pay for projects to allow public access for tours.
Former Director of Corrections Glen Whorton said the money would pay for walkway handrails, restroom improvements, electric repairs, disability access and other work and that cutting the funding puts the museum project on hold for another two years.
The prison closed in 2012.
