RENO (AP) — A Nevada man has been sentenced to six consecutive life terms in prison after being convicted earlier this year of multiple sex crimes against a child.
The Washoe County District Attorney's Office announced Friday that Jose Borja-Ruiz of Reno must serve a minimum of 160 years in prison before being eligible for parole.
The case began in 2016 when detectives with the Reno Police Department responded to a report of a pregnant 11-year-old girl. The girl had disclosed to medical personnel during an exam that her baby was fathered by a male relative who had been sexually abusing her for years.
An investigation resulted in Borja-Ruiz being arrested and charged. He went on trial in August and was convicted of four counts of sexual assault and two counts of lewdness against a child.
