The City of Henderson is contributing $200,000 to the Public Education Foundation’s Clark County School District Technology Fund for the purchase of up to 2,000 Chromebooks, to help ensure that Henderson students have access to technology that will support distance learning while schools remain closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Gov. Sisolak ordered all schools closed until April 30 and the Nevada Department of Education directed all school districts to mobilize distance learning to ensure continuity of education for the children of Nevada.
The Henderson Redevelopment Agency will provide $100,000 from education set-aside funds, which allocate 18% of tax revenue from property located in the Downtown and East side redevelopment areas toward meeting the needs of public schools located within one mile of those areas or that serve students that live in those areas.
The other $100,000 will be distributed from City of Henderson marijuana business license revenue, which sets aside 30% of the semiannual business license fees collected from retail marijuana establishments to award in the form of grants to public schools serving Henderson students.
