UPDATE: An eyewitness tells 13 Action News she watched the fatal hit-and-run outside her home Sunday night.
ORIGINAL STORY:
A North Las Vegas family is grieving after their two-year-old was killed in a hit-and-run crash Sunday night.
Neighbors were gathered outside for the Super Bowl while their kids were playing on Thomas Avenue near Lake Mead Boulevard and Pecos Road. Vicki Green, mother of the victim, tells Action News her daughter and son were riding on a scooter together when they were hit by a white van.
Two-year-old Evelyn Green was declared dead at the hospital. Her older brother was treated for minor injuries.
Green tells Action News the suspected hit-and-run driver pulled over and stuck around the scene for about 15 minutes. Green says he smelled like alcohol and kept saying he was sorry. Green also says the man left the scene before police got there.
Police say the driver was a Hispanic man in his 40s and was driving a white van with no windows.
