LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Channel 13 is learning more about a fatal collision this evening involving a juvenile.

We initially told you about an all-lanes shutdown earlier tonight on westbound Charleston Boulevard at Mojave Road following an alert from the RTC.

We reached out to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) for additional details, and received preliminary information that the crash involved a 10-year-old boy.

Channel 13 later attended a media briefing held by LVMPD's Lieutenant Fulwiler. Here is what we learned.

Lt Fulwiler shared that a call was received around 6:48 this evening reporting a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian.

Police identified the pedestrian as a 10-year-old boy crossing the street outside of a marked crosswalk, where he was struck by a pickup truck near Charleston and 30th Street.

The child was taken to a nearby hospital, where despite all life-saving efforts, he was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the truck was uninjured, and remained on scene. They were not suspected of impairment, but were taken into custody.

Lt. Fulwiler also cautioned drivers, pedestrians, and parents to exercise caution when traveling.

"This is a reminder for not only those that drive on our roadways to pay attention, to slow down, especially during those hours where it is dark out... but also for us as pedestrians out on the roadways to pay attention, to cross where we need to, where we can... And also as parents — including, as a parent myself — please, watch out for your kiddos. Have those conversations with your kids about where to cross, when to cross, and how to watch out for vehicles." — Lt. Cody Fulwiler
