ORIGINAL STORY

Skye Canyon is calling on local artists for its inaugural Chalk + Cheers, a chalk art competition and fair at Skye Canyon Park.

Artists will compete for cash prizes in three categories: high school student, university student/amateur, and professional artist. There's no entry fee, and artists can win up to $250 for first place, $100 for second place, and $50 for third place. That's a combined total of $1,200 in prizes.

There's also a limited number of free 10 X 10 vendor booths for locals to showcase and sell their artwork. All disciplines are encouraged to get a booth, whether it's jewelry, crochet, sculptors, etc.

The deadline to enter the competition and get a vendor booth is September 15. You can apply online here. Artists will be notified if they've been accepted by Sept. 18.

Chalk + Cheers runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sept. 30. The free event will feature areas for attendees to create their own works of art, as well as food trucks, beer, wine, and music.
