ORIGINAL STORY

Hammer's Grill & Bar in Henderson is hosting a Bloody Mary Challenge on June 5 and 12 to raise money for the Children's Hospital of Nevada at UMC.

Owner Bob Fleming said that he first came up with the idea of a Blood Mary challenge when he owned a sports bar in Illinois. His cousin was diagnosed with the adult form of  leukemia and passed away from the horrible disease. Fleming was able to raise more than $10,000 for the Children's  Hospital of Illinois. The bar in Illinois also held several other events to support different charities in the area.

Ten bars will compete on June 5 and 12. Each bar paid a $100 entry fee and will be making three gallons of Bloody Marys for customers to sample. Lee's Liquor will be judging the competition. Each bar will also present a 2 to 3 minute skit of their choice.

The competition will begin at noon. Samples will be sold to customers for just $2 each. A trophy will be given to the winner of the challenge.

Hammer's Grill & Bar is located at 771 E. Horizon Drive.
